The Reality of the BUET Written Exam

In BUET written, you get 60 questions worth 10 marks each across Mathematics (20), Physics (20), and Chemistry (20). That gives you exactly 2 minutes per question.

Phase 1: The First 30 Minutes (Chemistry Blitz)

Chemistry questions in BUET written are often direct calculations or named conversions. You do not need complex multi-line integrals. Aim to finish 14-16 Chemistry questions in the first 30 minutes to bank time for heavy Physics mechanics and Math calculus problems.

Phase 2: Mathematics Strategy

  • Vectors & Coordinate Geometry: Solve these first. Formulas are standard and algebra is clean.

  • Calculus: Watch out for integration limits and trigonometric substitution traps.

  • Matrices & Determinants: Check determinant properties to reduce row operations before calculating.

  • Phase 3: Physics Free-Body Diagrams

Always sketch a clean Free-Body Diagram (FBD) for mechanics questions. Even if your final decimal is slightly off due to rounding, BUET script evaluators award 6-8 marks for a proper diagram and initial differential equation setup.

    What To Do When Stuck

If a question takes more than 2.5 minutes without a clear path to solution, circle the number and move forward immediately. Never compromise 3 easy questions for 1 stubborn problem!
